Scary times on Chislehurst High St...

If you went into Chislehurst High St on Friday, you would have been greeted by ghouls, vampires, zombies, witches and skeletons to name just a few!

Almost 500 children descended on our fair town dressed to impress and ready to trick or treat as part of this year’s Linklater & Warren Halloween Pumpkin Hunt! Visit Chislehurst organises this event (all by volunteers) and has been delighted with the turn out for this FREE event and we were so impressed by the efforts of all the children and their parents! What a sight to behold!

Due to the queues last year, we decided to introduce online registration. This proved very popular and we had filled our original batch of places in just 5 days. The second wave of tickets sold out in about half an hour! Clearly the event has built a reputation!

We have hated to disappoint anyone who wasn’t able to secure a ticket but due to our insurances, we are limited by the number of people we can comfortably accommodate.

Events like this would not be possible without the efforts of our businesses and special mention must go to Linklater & Warren Opticians who were our title sponsors. They have been a great team to work with and have thoroughly enjoyed getting involved with this event. They were even kind enough to distribute pumpkins up and down the High St to all the participating businesses, so thank you! If you need an eye test, a new pair of glasses or contacts, pay them a visit. They really are a lovely, family friendly team.

Our other associate sponsors include the Queen’s Head and Amber Events. The Queen’s Head hosted the end of the trail and assisted with our Fancy Dress Competition. What a job we had working out all the winners! The winners were:

1.      Mitzi Lee, dressed as gold cat

2.      Riley & Chester Smith – dressed as wolves

3.      Destiny Milner – a very scary looking vampires

4.      Elliott Hill – a zombie groom

5.     Louis Pompei – the cutest little dragon

Well done to everyone on their costumes. And thanks to Cote Brasserie & Sweet Sundae for their lovely prizes. You can see a gallery of photos on our facebook page which have been kindly taken by Adam Swaine and Mark Grover, again all done as volunteers. Thank you to you both!

Amber Events hosted their stop at Age UK and converted their gazebo into a haunted dining room. They certainly showed off their creative event skills and to find out more about the services they offer, please visit their website. Everything from weddings, parties and overseas occasions, Paula at Amber Events is the woman to know!

And special mention must go to Age UK Bromley & Greenwich, not only did it make for a great starting point on the trail, the team could not have been more accommodating with their assistance with Amber Events, All the Arts (and their very special performance! Thanks Guys!) and helping us with the registration process. Simply put, we could not have done it without them.

Thanks to Liz & Derek Nash, David Ely, Matt Hedges and Steve Wheeler for helping in their different ways, again, this event would not have been as slick without them!

And then there was all the wonderful businesses who hosted your little monsters around the town including Signature Dental, Alan de Maid, Oakmead Dental Care & Opticians, Go Travel, Linklater & Warren Opticians, Chislehurst Chiropractic Clinic, The Queen’s Head, Age UK, jdm Estate Agents and Sweet Sundae. I hope you agree that they all went the extra mile to entertain and treat!

A new addition to this year’s event was The Chislehurst Society at the Library, The Friends of the Rec at the Queen’s Head Garden and the Trustees of the Commons at the Pond. We didn’t want this year’s event to just be about sweeties and I hope you agree that the little craft activities and games made for a different dimension to the event. All of these stations were run by volunteers and Visit Chislehurst is hugely grateful for their support – collectively we are the organisations that make this town tick! Whilst everyone has worked so hard and it is hard to single people out, I wanted to say a very special mention to Mary Wheeler from the Trustees of the Commons who personally cut out 600 paper bats for your children’s entertainment!!! Wow – now that is commitment to Chislehurst.

Who else to thank? Well, there is more – firstly Signature Dental who initially conceived the idea for the event but also continue to take a major part in the event’s organisation and marketing. Big thank you to Christine and all the team for their support.

And a very big thank you to Nugget Design. They are the team who created the posters, leaflets and your specially designed haunted map. As an aside, they are also the brainchild behind the Wrattens re-brand and shop / café re-fit plus they finally put a sign above the doors of Thaidine. The town has much to thank them for!

All the Grand Draw prizes were donated by Chislehurst Business Group members including Glenlyn Academy, All the Arts, Chislehurst & West Kent Cricket Club, Image Studio, Cook & Matthews, Quick Steps Dance School, Sweet Sundae, Green Owl Toys, Boppin’ Tots, Wrattens, Chislehurst Rotary and Cote Brasserie.

We still have a few raffle prizes which have not been claimed, please check if you hold the winning ticket here.

So, the 2015 event is over and we are already collating feedback from everyone and excitedly thinking about next year. But before that, we are going to put our feet up for a short while and enjoy Autumn and Christmas in Chislehurst. And if you are doing the same, I have a plea! If you enjoy events such as this, you enjoy using our website, seeing the Christmas Lights twinkle and plan to venture to the Christmas Bonanza event in November, then please support your Chislehurst Business Group businesses.  Without them, they would not happen!

Please take part in our online survey to give us your feedback on this year's event.

And put Friday 28th October 2016 in your diary for next year's event. All being well, we will be back!
