Language for Fun is a local language school offering lovely, lively Spanish, French and Italian lessons as an easy-going hobby. Our classes are nothing like you remember from school! We meet in small, friendly groups, in pubs, cafés and other comfortable venues around the area. Courses are designed using a conversational method to get you talking from day one. We have traditional, face to face courses as well as offering an innovative blended learning approach where we combine cutting edge language learning technology with a personal human touch – giving you the very best of both worlds.
We offer courses at all levels in three different languages, delivered by experienced and friendly teachers. We pride ourselves on being small and local so we’re always available to chat about what you need, give you feedback on your work, or help you with any other queries by phone or email or at the end of each session.
There’s no compulsory homework, no tests, and no pressure. Just fun, with like-minded local people.
You don’t have to commit to a whole course in advance – you can always just book one session and decide after you’ve tried us out!
EVENTS OVER THE SUMMER: we’re holding a series of free taster classes for beginners (online due to current circumstances) Italian on 13th July, Spanish on 14th July, French on 15th July. Taster classes normally cost £16.
I’m Lucy and I started the business in 2018 – here’s a bit about me:
I qualified as a language teacher back in 2000 and I’ve been teaching Spanish, French and English ever since! I lived and worked in Spain for several years and learned to love the Spanish language and culture, liking nothing better than helping my fellow native English speakers to appreciate it too.
I’ve taught my language – and the languages I have learned – to the highly educated and the barely literate, to people in their eighties and toddlers still in nappies, to accomplished linguists and the truly terrified, and I love adapting what I do to the needs and pace of my learners and watching everyone make progress (at their own speed) towards their personal goals, whether that be mastery or an easy-going hobby.
I firmly believe in lifelong language learning and in my free time I’m trying to improve my (basic) Mandarin Chinese and Italian. I may be fluent and qualified to teach French, Spanish and English, but I am still a beginner learner of Chinese and Italian, so I know how daunting learning a language can be and how important it is that the atmosphere and materials in a class are non-threatening, easily accessible, and thoughtfully designed, and what a difference it makes to have an approachable, understanding teacher.
I am confident that you’ll love the experience of learning with Language for Fun.
