SUMMARY:From House Call to History: Unveiling an Ancient Egyptian Discovery
DESCRIPTION:From House Call to History: Unveiling an Ancient Egyptian Discovery \nJoin Catherine Southon Auctioneers & Valuers for an exclusive preview lecture that proves extraordinary history can be found right on our doorstep.\nWhat started as a routine probate house call quickly transformed into a journey of discovery for our team\, revealing an internationally significant collection spanning over a millennium of Egyptian history (1450 BC to 30 BC). \nThe talk will be delivered by Allard van Halm. Allard will share his firsthand experience of the valuation process—from initial assessment to collaborating with industry academics to verify these incredible objects. \nThe Lecture Highlights:\n– The Valuer’s Journey: How a standard estate inspection unfolded into a major antiquities find.\n– Deciphering the “Who’s Who”: Understanding the symbols and culture of ancient Egypt. Identifying the characters and illustrations on the ancient funerary papyrus.\n– Deep Dive into the Artifacts: A closer look at the collection’s most fascinating pieces\, including a spectacular bronze cat’s head\, terracotta shabtis\, and the crown jewels: two immensely important funerary papyrus fragments\, one believed to be part of Amenhotep’s Book of the Dead. (Other fragments from this exact same scroll are held in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York\, Queensland Museum in Australia\, and Boston Museum of Fine Arts). \nEvent Details:\nDate: Thursday 3rd September\nTime: 10:30am – 12:00pm\nLocation: The Saleroom\, 5 High Street\, Chislehurst\, BR7 5AB\nRefreshments: Complimentary refreshments provided.\nAccess Note: Entry requires ascending a short flight of stairs. \nRSVP:\nHow to book: Email ktulloch@catherinesouthon.co.uk\nDeadline: Monday 31st August\nAvailability: Maximum 40 spaces. First-come\, first-served basis.
