The History of Chislehurst

Chislehurst is simply steeped in history. It was once home to the famous Walsingham family at Scadbury, played host to Louis Napoleon III who died here in exile in 1873 and the town received visits from Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria. We were also the home to the Speed King, Sir Malcolm Campbell who was born and went to primary school in Chislehurst. For more information on Chislehurst’s Heritage, take a look at our dedicated section on heritage but also connect with the Chislehurst Society who help to preserve our history.

For a more bite sized history lesson, please enjoy our ‘Friel on Friday’ short videos below. They star Joanna Friel, Vice Chair of the Chislehurst Society and are filmed by Clare Herriot.
