Jo Dampier – Local counsellor & emotional wellbeing writer at Jo’s Therapy for Authentic Living
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the ways people think, feel, and relate, things that can shape our lives but often go unspoken. My career began in mental health nearly 15 years ago, and today I’m a BACP-accredited integrative therapist working with adults from my therapy room at Milestones in Chislehurst.
My path into this work wasn’t linear or polished; it was shaped by my own experiences of therapy, by years of listening to people at their most honest, and by witnessing how much can change when someone finally feels understood. What continually strikes me is how many people carry emotional pain alone simply because they’ve never been given the language, tools, or space to make sense of their inner world. This is what I love about my work – helping people understand themselves better, feel less alone, and recognise that their feelings make sense.
Alongside my one-to-one practice, I run Jo’s Therapy Hub — a growing library of emotional health resources and courses that make therapeutic support more accessible. The Hub was born from noticing how many clients arrive in therapy carrying unnecessary shame, anxiety, or self-doubt because they’ve never been taught the basics of emotional understanding. A simple explanation of why anxiety feels so physical, or why boundaries feel “mean” to people-pleasers, can be life-changing. I wanted to create a space where those insights were available to anyone, not just those in therapy.
I’m also passionate about community and connection, which is why I’m excited to bring more group offerings to Chislehurst, like Women’s Wellbeing Circles and peer support groups for issues like anxiety, self-esteem, and boundaries. When people come together, they feel less isolated and they begin to see themselves through kinder eyes, and that can be life changing.
My approach to therapy and emotional support is grounded, compassionate, and collaborative. I don’t believe in perfection. I believe in awareness, curiosity, and the courage to show up as a human being – imperfect, learning, yet entirely good enough.
Whether someone meets me through therapy, a workshop, a blog post, or one of my digital resources, my hope is always the same: that they leave feeling more understood, more empowered, and more connected to themselves.
